Katsina, Nigeria – The recently concluded local government elections in Katsina State, held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, have been described as credible, transparent, and well-conducted. The election took place across all 34 local government areas and 371 wards under strict monitoring and supervision.
Security agencies ensured a peaceful voting process by restricting movement and maintaining order at polling stations. The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) effectively conducted voter accreditation, verifying the authenticity of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) before allowing citizens to cast their ballots from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
After the voting exercise, ballots were counted in the presence of security personnel, political party representatives, and journalists. The results were then compiled at the KTSIEC headquarters, where the commission confirmed the votes secured by each party.
KTSIEC announced that all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the chairmanship and councillorship positions, having secured the highest number of votes and met the required legal criteria.
Stakeholders have urged KTSIEC to maintain electoral integrity in future elections to strengthen democracy in the state.
